Petunia’s Dog Rescue Story:

Long story short, Petunia was dropped off at the shelter after her previous pet parent fell on hard times and one day left the entire fur family behind. But, before we met Petunia, we were fostering her Brother Krypto. Yet, no one had connected the dots about their DNA until after we decided to adopt her and we were filling out their paperwork. That’s when it was discovered that they were Siblings!

And I know you might be thinking “The shelter already knew” but they have so many dogs to keep up with and I PICKED Petunia out of a dog line up. It was not that they told me about her and tried to push her off on me or anything. It was truly fate!

Before Rescuing Petunia (we met her Brother)

If we had not rescued Krypto we never would have met Petunia! One week earlier, I secretly snuck off to the shelter to foster a dog, not expecting to end up with Kryptosaurs! But, it was a blessing in disguise because I saved his life that day since they needed to make room and planned to euthanize him for space!

We even took Krypto on a van trip in our RV to the beach for a week! Tried to give him away and let’s just say he took us for a ride! But, had we not gone through all the ups and downs of having a BIG dog around, we probably would have never went back to the shelter and met Petunia.

We have small dogs and I kinda did not tell anyone I was going to go pick up a dog (including my boyfriend who was going to have to live with him)! YIKES! I know 🫣

We Went Back To The Shelter To Sign Paperwork

So after all the ups and downs of fostering Krypto we didn’t want him to get euthanized so we decided to keep him and find him a home, but since the girl at the shelter was quitting soon I didn’t want to have any issues so we were trying to rush all the paperwork through!

Yet, when we were heading back to the shelter I had asked if they had any other small dogs, particularly one on their adoption website named “Willow” or “Willow was Petunia” since Petunia was her name but I think they have to rename the dogs when they come to the shelter depending on the circumstances surrounding their “drop off”

The girl told me that she would send me a little a video of her and it was so precious. I just said bring her up front so when we get there it will be quick to see her size and hopefully NVington will say we can take her too! — Again at this time we didn’t know that Krypto and her were brother and sister…

After We Got To The Shelter & Met…

BUT when we got to the shelter to sign the paperwork for Krypto and secretly meet Petunia (was willow) their two noses met and it was like they knew each other or “felt comfortable” — so I begged NVington to let us take her and he said we’d foster her and see…

On the way home she crapped on me! But we found out quickly she was good on a leash!

The Next Day…

I knew we were not going to be able to keep Krypto long term because of his size, and if you haven’t see the story about my regrets in giving up on “Wilma” — you’d know why I felt this pull inside to adopt her (or at least get the paperwork done again because I knew the girl at the shelter would be quitting soon!) So secretly I adopted her without telling NVington 😉

But it was during that adoption process that I got a text saying “OMG you won’t believe this! Krypto & Petunia are siblings!” And there is one more out there named “Pandora” but she had already been adopted… believe me I would have tried to get her too!

But we were all in shock! Eventually we got a DNA test to confirm the results since it was just assumed they were related since all of the dogs were dropped off at the same time, same family kinda thing…

We were about to give her up for adoption too!

Ever since we got Petunia the goal was more of less to potentially find her a home. But, as the time progressed and the final day came to drop off her brother Krypto with new rescue dog dad — something changed!

We had her for about 6 months at this time and even NVington was say she has to go, asking me when she was leaving etc.. but there was something that happened one day when he was leaving for work… he says it’s the way she looked at him!

Either way on Krypto’s drop off day I said hey “do you want to leave her here too?”

NVington gave some serious thought to it and brushed it off saying maybe when we come back to check on Krypto, he will have made a decision or something like it was too much to leave 2 dogs at one time, etc…

So again…She was also not suppose to stay, we even tried for months to give her away! But, one day my boyfriend magically fell in love and now she has definitely become a Daddy’s girl! Part of it is the way she looks at him especially when he leaves the house. She even pants and walks around if he closes the door leaving her out. He constantly calls her his “Girlfriend” too! 🤷‍♀️

We came down to the conclusion that “she wasn’t that big” although she is bigger than all the other dogs!

You can meet Krypto here!
